Last Saturday, September 22, The first annual Rockwall Rubber Duck Regatta took place at the Harbor’s grand fountain! It was a duck filled day that began with the Duck Beauty Pageant where local businesses decorated their own giant rubber ducks for the coveted golden duck trophy. The giant ducks were then raced in the fountain (as seen below).
The winner of the golden duck trophy was Taco Casa! Congrats to them!
The big event took place a little later. 2,300 baby rubber ducks were tossed into the large fountain-each duck racing to the finish line for their chance to win their sponsors some beautiful prizes. Duckshow didn’t get to attend (this year
), but it was said that it was a sizzling hot Texas day….perfect for a dip in the fountain. Notice the big duck on the sidelines….I’ll bet he was quacking those little ducks on!
Down to the second tier! Go ducks, go! (Some of the racing ducks need a little help as they get sometimes get stuck along the banks
).
The ducks make their way to the third and final tier of the fountain…
The ducks cascade down the waterfall. Rockwall Mayor David Sweet helps move the ducks along.
More cascading!
And on to the finish line!
Yay! The winners swim past the finish line!
There were many winners and the regatta was a great success! In fact, it was such a great success that the annual Regatta will be a two day event next year! All proceeds from the regatta went to Meals on Wheels and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Over $45,ooo was raised for the charities!
And-the dogs even came dressed to impress! This was The official Volunteer Duck Dog, Dixie Belle. She looks duck-tacular! And if that weren’t enough….you can see the duck-umentary of the Regatta below. It includes an up close look at some of the decorated….or duckorated….ducks in the duck pageant….including an Elvis and Mario duck! Just see for yourself:

The First Annual Rubber Duck Regatta – Thank you so much for posting this! We had an amazing event with tons of people, vendors and most importantly DUCKS! Since we really do not have a place with flowing water like a river we used the next best thing, the biggest fountain in town! It raised more than $45,000 gross with the net proceeds being divided between the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall County and Meals on Wheels of Rockwall County! Next year will be a 2 day event!
Wow! That's great! I'm SO happy to hear that! It's such a fun way to raise money. Two days next year?!! I'm going to have to come out for that!
